Conspiracy Theory Thursday: Deja Vu

Welcome to my all new monthly feature called Conspiracy Theory Thursday! Once a month I will talk about a brand new theory, be it Mermaids, Aliens, Area 51, Men in Black, Atlantis, etc. etc. etc. I am absolutely obsessed with theories and keeping in open mind. I wholeheartedly believe that the government keeps things from us. I believe that the universe is way too big for us to be the only living beings. I also believe that there are many things living in our ocean..I mean less than 5% of the ocean has been explored, REALLY?!

Today’s theory is all about Deja Vu and if you’re wondering why I chose this one as my first is because for the last 3 months, I have been experiencing heavy Deja Vu. I will mention different theories and please note that I do not agree with all theories. At the end of the post, I do discuss which one I believe in.

giphy-40

Deja Vu
noun: a feeling of having experienced the present situation

Untitled-13

parallel-universe-01

According to a few articles, scientist have proven such a thing as multiverse. Research has shown that there are multiple universes. Which honestly is mind blowing and yet not surprising at all with how huge the universe is and planets being discovered all the time. But back to how this connects to Deja Vu. It has been said that from these multiple universes, parallels to the current universe we live in exist. In other words, we have a parallel us existing in a parallel earth.

The way this takes into effect is that when we experience Deja Vu it is because our parallel self in the parallel universe is doing exactly what we’re doing at the same time. In other words, creating an alignment between two universes. The parallel is overlapping and colliding with us in our current state, we are experiencing the same vibration in frequencies which is why Deja Vu comes so suddenly.

Untitled-14

We have Deja Vu due to a precognitive dream. A precognitive dream is when a dream predicts something that’s going to happen in the future. Research states that the average person has 4 to 6 dreams per night and sometimes even 7-8. However, once we wake up, we quickly forget most of them or all of them altogether (so you’re definitely dreaming every night). Some studies show that dreams have similarities to future events which would explain why we experience Deja Vu, because what if we already dreamt the present situation but we don’t quite remember the dream?

Short story time, this has happened to me. I have dreamed a future situation but had forgotten the dream. However, when I experienced Deja Vu, it’s as if the sensation of being in that place and time already made me remember the dream and exact day as to when I had the forgotten dream.

Untitled-15

neurons-1773922_960_720Since there’s no scientific evidence for Deja Vu, however plenty of research has been done, there’s a theory that we experience Deja Vu because of a glitch in the brain due to how memory is stored in the brain. An example would be a familiar scent causing a recollection of a memory. Our brains search through our memories to make the connection to that familiar scent (memory check), instead the brain starts signaling there’s a memory error. Which means that there was a problem in our brain connecting with what we actually smelled and what we thought we had smelled, therefore that Deja Vu is “the birth of a false memory”.

The theory that I believe in is actually a tie between theory a and theory b! I do believe that there are multiverse/parallel universes and I also believe in the dream theory because of my own experience. When I have Deja Vu and it doesn’t remind me of a dream I had, then I immediately say “parallel stop messing with my frequencies, k thanks” lol.

***Please be advised that there a lot more theories than the three I mentioned. I chose these three because they sound more realistic than other theories I’ve read/heard about. Remember that you can access these theories with a simple search on the web. I like to have an open mind and hope you do as well.

and that is all for today! what theory are you leaning towards? we should chat in the comments! please let me know what you thought of this feature and let me know about any topics you would like for me to cover. much love ❤

guess who’s joining #ARCAugust?! a chat and ARC TBR!

Untitled-5

You guessed it! I will be joining #ARCAugust! This is my very first time committing to something like this but I thought it would be perfect since I already had planned on reading all my September releases this month. On top of that, I get to chat up with other bloggers and we can motivate one another.

ARC August is being hosted by Read.Sleep.Repeat and if you click on their name, the link will take you to the sign up which I love because that way you get to meet other bloggers. On Read.Sleep.Repeat’s post you will find the rules (that are super easy to follow) and other things. They will be hosting two Twitter chats, the first one is on Monday August 7th at 8pm EST. The second chat will take place at the end of the month, Monday August 28, same time. You can use the hashtag #ARCAugust to check in ❤

Now a lot of you might not know this because I never did write a blog post about it but I attended BookCon this year with my twin Lilly @ LairOfBooks (she’s also joining ARC August, check out her linked post). Lilly and I snagged a lot of great books, therefore my ARC TBR for this month will feature some of the books that I obtained at BookCon. I actually don’t ever request ARCs for many reasons but that’s for another time. Let’s get into the ARCs!

Untitled-4

*please note that I will not be reading these in chronological order, you can blame my mood reading for that. they are however in order of publishing date. titles lead you to goodreads.

ALL THESE THREE HAVE THE SAME RELEASE DATE!!!! *cries for days* They all release September 12th. Covers shown are:

Both of these are also released on the same day, September 19th. Covers shown are:

let me know if you plan on joining #ARCAugust! are any of these books on your TBR? let’s chat in the comments!

Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel Non-Spoiler ARC Review

Title: Black Bird of the Gallows
Series: N/A
Author: Meg Kassel
Genre: YA Paranormal
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Format: ARC paperback
Release Date: September 5th 2017
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

33509076Synopsis:

A simple but forgotten truth: Where harbingers of death appear, the morgues will soon be full.

Angie Dovage can tell there’s more to Reece Fernandez than just the tall, brooding athlete who has her classmates swooning, but she can’t imagine his presence signals a tragedy that will devastate her small town. When something supernatural tries to attack her, Angie is thrown into a battle between good and evil she never saw coming. Right in the center of it is Reece—and he’s not human.

What’s more, she knows something most don’t. That the secrets her town holds could kill them all. But that’s only half as dangerous as falling in love with a harbinger of death.

*I want to thank BookCon and Entangled Teen for providing me an ARC!*

Untitled-6

Angie Dovage is a teenager trying to live a low-key life where people forget her story and what’s happened with her mom. In small town Pennsylvania where nothing much really happens and everyone lives their day to day life, Angie Dovage is going to meet her new next door neighbor who will drastically change her life. Once her next door neighbor moves in, Reece Fernandez, something supernatural tries to attack Angie. Yet, every time Angie goes through an attack, she notices that Reece is there. Angie is dancing with a harbinger of death and when she finds out out why Reece is really there in this small town Pennsylvania, it’s either saving everyone or staying alive.

Untitled-7

I thought the writing was okay, easy to read and understandable. Meg Kassel wrote the setting in present times so there wasn’t much world building. The author really focused on the descriptions of what was a Harbinger of Death, Beekeepers, and the crows. I found that to be a problem (in my opinion) because this is a short book of 308 pages and sometimes she would explain over a few times what these three things do rather than focus on the plot. There was a point where I put down the book and asked myself “is this book part of a series? cause if so that would make more sense as to why she’s giving us much detailed descriptions.” Goodreads didn’t give me anything so I went to her website and found that she’s working on a novella and companion novel.

Meg Kassel also wrote a lot of tropes. If you do not like instalove, then you might want to steer away from this book. There’s also the neighbor who happens to be a supernatural trope, the girl who wasn’t doing much with her life till a guy walked in trope, and many other tropes but I won’t mention it because I don’t want to spoil the book.

Untitled-10

We get to meet a few characters throughout this book. We meet both main characters Angie and Reece. Angie Dovage lives with her father and she hasn’t had the best life. Losing a mother to drugs, her life in school isn’t the best because everyone knows of her story. Angie is focused on music and the band she’s in with her two friends, Deno and Lacey. Reece is the new mysterious attractive guy that every girl in school is swooning over. Instead of being the quiet bad boy, he instantly gets a long with everyone in school and get’s into the hockey team. We also meet Angie’s father in the story who happens to be really present in her life and I have to say that I really enjoyed that aspect.

I also have to say that these characters weren’t flushed out as I would like. I feel that I’ve read these character arcs repeatedly throughout the years. I didn’t really find them relatable and it would’ve been nice to see them grow naturally but the tropes didn’t really help with the growth because a lot of their (Angie and Reece) decisions were based off emotions.

Untitled

Overall, I found this book to be very predictable. If you like LUX by Jennifer L. Armentrout and Twilight by Stephanie Meyer, then I would definitely suggest you reading this book because it has ALL the same elements.

For this being a short book, I thought there was a lot more descriptions going on rather than plot. The plot really took place in the last few chapters. I know I mentioned this already but I really wish the author would’ve taken more time focusing on the plot, building the characters, and giving us just more of the world.

Angie asked a lot of questions about what the Harbinger of Deaths do and what Beekeepers are, how the Crows are involved in all of this. Yes, those are very important questions, however, Meg Kassel was explaining this way too much. And yes, it is important to the plot and what happens but there wasn’t a flow with plot and getting to know these paranormal elements. Therefore, sometimes the book felt too jumpy instead of an organic flow of things.

There were a few things that rubbed me the wrong way as well when reading this book which I can’t just let slide over without mentioning.

  • There was a part in the book when the author compares Cadence (name of town) to Afghanistan. “Cadence is not Afghanistan. It’s southwestern Pennsylvania.” I thought that was very insensitive of the author to write.
  • There is also a scene where Angie is drenched in water, she’s unconscious, and Reece stated that she was freezing and in shock. She wakes up and notices that her clothes is hanging on a chair and she was changed into a t-shirt which was alarming to her. She calls it to his attention, she’s asking questions about what happened, and he gets really defensive which I didn’t like at all. We get a character who’s been really nice and cool throughout the book but then when he get’s questioned on what happened while she’s unconscious, he turns into a dislikable person. “You were freezing and in shock. I had to get you warm and dry. I’m not sorry.” He also didn’t apologize which really pissed me off.
  • “what are you, suicidal? leave me and go.” this type of sarcasm is a no from me.
  • Reece Fernandez so happens not to be latino at all so there went my hopes and dreams of a latinx character being involved.

Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2) by Victoria Schwab Spoiler Free Book Review

Title: Our Dark Duet (Book #2)
Series: Monsters of Verity
Author: Victoria Schwab
Genre: YA Paranormal, Fantasy
Publisher: Greenwillow
Format: Hardcover
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

our dark duet

Synopsis from Goodreads:

THE WORLD IS BREAKING. AND SO ARE THEY.

KATE HARKER isn’t afraid of monsters. She hunts them. And she’s good at it.

AUGUST FLYNN once yearned to be human. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

THE WAR HAS BEGUN.

THE MONSTERS ARE WINNING.

Kate will have to return to Verity. August will have to let her back in. And a new monster is waiting—one that feeds on chaos and brings out its victims’ inner demons.

Which will be harder to conquer: the monsters they face, or the monsters within?

***there will be spoilers from the previous book, if you have not yet read This Savage Song, please do not read further. I have a non-spoiler review for This Savage Song here.

Plot

When reading Our Dark Duet, Schwab starts 6 months after the ending of This Savage Song. At first we jump into different perspectives with Kate and August in which we see two different sides of the spectrum. I love how Schwab expands her world and we see what is going on in two different towns, Prosperity and Verity. Kate had ran away to Prosperity in This Savage Song after the death of her father, meanwhile August stays behind in Verity.

In Prosperity, Kate hunts the monsters with a little help of a new set of characters that go by the name of The Wardens. In Verity, August becomes leader of the FTF and makes sure that the only humans who can trespass to safe grounds are humans with pure souls. Kate while in chase of monsters meets a new one that has never been spoken of and/or seen. When meeting this new monster, Chaos the Eater, some things are set in motion and everything goes downhill from there. August although being a leader is still struggling with the monster within himself while dealing with the ones outside and slowly but surely everything starts clicking.

Thoughts

Excuse me while I sit here and cry over that heart wrenching ending. WTF Schwab!!! How do you write such amazing books that leave me crying and hurting for dayyysss?!?! HOOOOWWWW?!?! An amazing conclusion to the Monsters of Verity Duology. I have never felt more satisfied by a series. Schwab left me with my heart in my throat and literal tears.

Our Dark Duet is the continuation of This Savage Song. After This Savage Song had ended, I was left in anticipation for this book. I was also left with a lot of questions, wondering about August and Kate and their whereabouts. Left with questions about other characters as well. And Schwab just took my soul and ran with it. Like if August played his violin and left me in bliss.

Our Dark Duet was filled with darkness, poetry, mentions of stardust, edge of your seat scenes, and tons of chaos. READ IT!

I really liked how Schwab gave us character development but also realistic characters that I was able to relate to. She did an amazing job in showing us their thought processing and what they were going through internally. Ugh, I love when books do that!

I absolutely loved the open-ending and just how raw it was. I couldn’t imagine the book with another type of ending, especially when the book was very dark. I found it to be much darker than This Savage Song, to me it was the perfect ending. Schwab had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t stop reading the book.

I am hoping that Schwab makes a spin-off for The Wardens.

“…..
so alone
it buries her
that sadness
swallows her
whole
the only sound
a voice
her voice

C.C. Hunter brings The Shadow Falls saga to a spectacular conclusion in this thrilling finale: Midnight Hour!

AFTER 6 YEARS: 5 BOOKS IN THE ORIGINAL SHADOW FALLS SERIES, 4 BOOKS IN THE SPIN OFF SHADOW FALLS: AFTER DARK SERIES, AND ONE WHOLE BOOK THAT INCLUDES 4 NOVELLAS…THIS.SERIES.IS.OVER?!?!? I LITERALLY HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES!!

giphy-21

I don’t even know where to start with this review. My emotions are kind of all over the place because this series is so precious and dear to my heart, the fact that it’s over…is this how you all felt when Harry Potter was over? Cause my lawd!!!

A Brief Explanation of How This Series All Started:

If you haven’t read this series, then let me explain a little bit. There are 3 musketeers in this book, in other words best friends: Kylie, Della, and Miranda. The original story, Shadow Falls, centers around Kylie entering a boarding school named Shadow Falls Academy full of paranormal creatures. She actually doesn’t know of her ability and what she is capable of. I am keeping her paranormal creature status unknown because when you start the book, you have no idea what she is (neither does she). Then there’s Della, who is a kick-ass Asian Vampire, and the spin off series, Shadow Falls: After Dark Books 1-3 centers around her. Miranda who’s a dyslexic witch has a novella titled Spellbinder and the 4th book in the After Dark series, Midnight Hour.

This series includes faeries, vampires, werewolves, warlocks, witches, ghost whisperers, and all types of paranormal things!! It’s also full of love, laughter, friendship, family dynamic, finding yourself, and eerie things.

One thing I admire about C.C. Hunter is that regardless of who’s POV you’re on throughout all these books, you still get the Trio within all the books. Plus C.C. Hunter is one hell of a cliffhanger type of writer, leaving you wanting more of these characters.

Review:

Miranda is very hard on herself for being a dyslexic witch. Meaning sometimes when she says her spells, they aren’t correct and instead of turning a person into a cat, she’ll turn them into a kangaroo. Miranda is the type of character I can fully relate too since I am dyslexic myself and I know how frustrating it can be when you misread something a million times or say something you didn’t intend on saying so it comes out all messed up meaning something else.

Miranda goes through a near-death experience which almost ruins her and when she wakes up in the hospital, she notices this mysterious tattoo that NO ONE can explain. Holiday, who runs Shadow Falls Academy is trying to contact one person who may help explain the tattoo but getting ahold of this person is hard and while trying to get one explanation, a lot of other things are happening.

A lot of other things like: struggling with the SATs and wanting to get into the same school as her besties Kylie and Della, also struggling with her relationship and this boy she’s madly in love with. Miranda’s parents don’t have it easy as well and she pretty much pays for their broken plates.

On top of all that, there’s an FRU case going on. FRU is exactly like the FBI but they’re intended for paranormal creatures ONLY. Miranda and her sister are the highlight of this paranormal case. And if the case doesn’t close fast, loved ones might get hurt.

The writing and the plot were phenomenal and spot on. C.C. Hunter always brings that element of surprise that I absolutely love with her twist.

I loved this whole story and I ate it up quicker than I thought lol. C.C. Hunter does it again and I really wish this story wasn’t over. I can’t deal with this. On top of 2016 being a shitty ass year, us the readers also have to deal with one of the best series ever to be over? So not fair!! *throws tantrum*

Every yesterday is a memory of dreams.
Every tomorrow is a vision of hopes.
Together we unite
To accept our differences
To appreciate our uniqueness
To make our world a just and fair place

Join us at the midnight hour

Standalone Sunday

Hello everyone! Standalone Sunday is a weekly meme created by Megan@bookslayerReads. This meme is about Standalone book (that is not part of a series) that you loved and would recommend. Check out her lovely blog, she’s a sweetheart ❤

13579626A tale of family, ghosts, secrets, and mystery, in which the lives of the living and the dead intersect in shocking, surprising, and moving ways

Wealthy Richard Walker has just died, leaving behind his country house full of rooms packed with the detritus of a lifetime. His estranged family—bitter ex-wife Caroline, troubled teenage son Trenton, and unforgiving daughter Minna—have arrived for their inheritance.

But the Walkers are not alone. Prim Alice and the cynical Sandra, long dead former residents bound to the house, linger within its claustrophobic walls. Jostling for space, memory, and supremacy, they observe the family, trading barbs and reminiscences about their past lives. Though their voices cannot be heard, Alice and Sandra speak through the house itself—in the hiss of the radiator, a creak in the stairs, the dimming of a light bulb.

The living and dead are each haunted by painful truths that will soon surface with explosive force. When a new ghost appears, and Trenton begins to communicate with her, the spirit and human worlds collide—with cataclysmic results.

Click here if you want to add it to your Goodreads TBR

One of my favorite books of all time despite the low ratings on Goodreads, it’s haunting and the story is rich with eeriness. The story is told by the family living in the house and the Ghosts who also reside. This is the perfect read for Autumn/Winter. Have you read this book? Let me know in the comments!!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine. On every Wednesday you discuss a book that you are highly anticipating.

This weeks pick is due to the fact that the author did a cover reveal. I read the first book this past summer and loved it. I am anxiously waiting for this second book and that would be:

32075662.jpgOur Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2)
by Victoria Schwab

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Kate Harker is a girl who isn’t afraid of the dark. She’s a girl who hunts monsters. And she’s good at it. August Flynn is a monster who can never be human, no matter how much he once yearned for it. He’s a monster with a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

Nearly six months after Kate and August were first thrown together, the war between the monsters and the humans is terrifying reality. In Verity, August has become the leader he never wished to be, and in Prosperity, Kate has become the ruthless hunter she knew she could be. When a new monster emerges from the shadows—one who feeds on chaos and brings out its victim’s inner demons—it lures Kate home, where she finds more than she bargained for. She’ll face a monster she thought she killed, a boy she thought she knew, and a demon all her own.

If you haven’t heard of the first book in this duet, This Savage Song, here’s the synopsis:

23299512There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.

I also have a review for This Savage Song where I obsess over this book. Click here =)

I cannot wait for Our Dark Duet and see what these characters are up to and whats going to happen with this society full of monsters and humans. I would highly recommend this! What’s on your Waiting on Wednesday?

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine. On every Wednesday you discuss a book that you are highly anticipating.

This week’s pick is Midnight Hour (Shadow Falls: After Dark #4) by C.C. Hunter. This book releases October 25th, 2016. I am super excited for this book because every single C.C Hunter book has been a favorite.

28220758-2

Synopsis from Goodreads:

After captivating millions across the globe, the Shadow Falls saga reaches its final—and most unforgettable—chapter yet! Prepare to fall in love all over again…

Being a dyslexic witch is a curse in itself, but Miranda Kane’s time at Shadow Falls has helped her harness her magical powers. Now, just as she’s finally mastered them and is preparing to graduate with her friends, a near-death experience threatens to ruin it all.

Has her sister been kidnapped? Miranda will risk her life to find out. Will she live to share the day she’s worked so hard for with her friends? When the clock strikes midnight, will Miranda make it to her graduation at Shadow Falls?

C.C. Hunter brings The Shadow Falls saga to a spectacular conclusion in this thrilling finale: Midnight Hour!

Since this is the 4th book to a SPIN-OFF series, I wanted to give you a little background of the original story. C.C. Hunter first started the Shadow Falls series which follows Kylie and her quest of finding herself within the paranormal. She doesn’t know what group of paranormal creatures she belongs too because she can change into anything.

Kylie is sent off to a boarding school but in this school we find Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Fae, Ghost Whisperers, Shapeshifters, and the like. Kylie rooms with Della, our Chinese-American ass kicking vampire, and Miranda our dyslexic witch.

The spin-off series, Shadow Falls: After Dark follows both Della and Miranda’s story separately. Which I really love because all those girls needed their stories told when we meet them in Born At Midnight (Shadow Falls #1).

Shadow Falls Series:

Shadow Falls: After Dark Series:

Almost Midnight is a bind up of Novellas that I would suggest reading through publication order of the books because they play an important role in this wholes series.

Have you read this series? What do you think of it?
