Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

Whew! Hello there! How are you? Hope you’re well. I’ve seen this tag floating around and I thought of partaking because it seems fun!

1.Best book you’ve read so far in 2019?
reid_9781524798628_jkt_all_r1.inddI’m going to go with the majorities answer, and that is: Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

This book was also the reason why I got back into reading this year. I’m so grateful. After being in a slump for over a year, Daisy Jones got me out of that.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019?
40265670When We Left Cuba by Chanel Cleeton! It’s not a continuation but it is a companion novel and omg what a book!!! I actually read it this month. Hopefully I’ll post a mini review for it soon. I would highly recommend this book and Next Year In Havana. Definitely worth the read and it’s own voices too!

3. New Release you haven’t read yet, but want to?
40236964Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine! I’m grateful that I received this book from the author and publisher. I definitely want to get to it ASAP!

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
43263680Ninth House (Ninth House Series #1) by Leigh Bardugo! I am so excited to read this because it’ll be my first book where it’s not Grishaverse related. No, I did not read her Wonder Woman book. Ninth House does sound right up my ally; thriller, adult, fantasy, secret societies. SIGN ME UP!!

5. Biggest Disappointment?
img_0010Hate to say it but definitely King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo. I DNFed it at 100 pages. I tried so hard to give it a chance but I couldn’t do it. It was not in me/not for me.

6. Biggest Surprise?
img_0007For this question, I’m going to say Sadie by Courtney Summers because it was my first real Audiobook that I loved and devoured. I was not expecting to like it very much, especially since I can’t really get into YA anymore. However, this book, the theme, the plot, EVERYTHING, really did it for me.

7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)?
6572605Taylor Jenkins Reid. I read both Daisy Jones & The Six and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo this year and now I want to read all of her work.

7383025Honorable mention for Chanel Cleeton. Just like Taylor, I also read Next Year In Havana and When We Left Cuba this year. I definitely will be reading her other books in the future.

8. Newest fictional crush?
34745311._SY475_I thought I was going to have a hard time choosing an answer for this question but umm HAVE YOU HEARD OF SHEPARD OLSEN???!!!????!?? He’s from Rebekah Weatherspoon’s romance novel, Haven. Wheewwwwww yes get your life by reading this book. And you’re welcome.

9. Newest favorite character?
img_0008EVELYN HUGO!!!! She is that bitch! Wow wow wow. I love how strong willed she is and her “take no bullshit” “do what you gotta do to survive” type of personality she has. I love reading morally gray characters, who you don’t necessarily agree with their decisions but you get why they do it and don’t hate them for it.

10. Book that made you cry?
35305625A lot of books made me cry so far this year lol. However for this one, I’m going to choose one that’s impacted me. The Broken Girls by Simone St. James is a thriller but there’s such a beautiful story with some of the characters that made me emotional.

11. Book that made you happy?
34374628Next Year In Havana by Chanel Cleeton!! I cried so much for this book but I was so happy with everything and how the story closed up, especially the character endings as well. Ugh, I was smiling big at the end.

12. Favorite book to film adaptation that you’ve seen this year?
Uhhhhh I don’t think I’ve watched any book to movie adaptations. Or maybe I just can’t remember right now to be honest lol.

13. Favorite review you’ve written (Booktube or written)?
daisy jones-2

14. The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)?
37703550I had to look at my bought books and I’ve decided to choose Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. This book is beautiful on the outside and the inside. Also! I wanted to add that the cover matches the atmosphere of the content.

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
I don’t need to read any books but I definitely want to get to these:

And that is all for today! I will not be tagging anyone. Please feel free to tag yourself. Any of these answers same as yours? Let me know!

The Who Am I Tag

What is my Myers-Briggs Personality Type? (Link)

Screen Shot 2017-04-29 at 12.01.00 AM.png

According to my personality test:
The Advocate personality type is very rare, making up less than one percent of the population, but they nonetheless leave their mark on the world. As members of the Diplomat Role group, Advocates have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is that they are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact.

Things I find to be very true about myself:

  • It makes sense that their friends and colleagues will come to think of them as quiet Extraverted types, but they would all do well to remember that Advocates need time alone to decompress and recharge, and to not become too alarmed when they suddenly withdraw.
  • Egalitarianism and karma are very attractive ideas to Advocates
  • Combining a vivid imagination with a strong sense of compassion, Advocates use their creativity to resolve not technical challenges, but human ones.
  • Seeing through dishonesty and disingenuous motives, Advocates step past manipulation and sales tactics and into a more honest discussion. Advocates see how people and events are connected, and are able to use that insight to get to the heart of the matter.
  • Speaking in human terms, not technical, Advocates have a fluid, inspirational writing style that appeals to the inner idealist in their audience.
  • Advocates have strong beliefs and take the actions that they do not because they are trying to advance themselves, but because they are trying to advance an idea that they truly believe will make the world a better place
  • Advocates are extremely private when it comes to their personal lives, using this image to keep themselves from having to truly open up, even to close friends. Trusting a new friend can be even more challenging for Advocates
  • People with this personality type are likely to exhaust themselves in short order if they don’t find a way to balance their ideals with the realities of day-to-day living

What does my birth order say about me? (Link)

I am a Firstborn and according to the link, this is what it says (I disagree with a lot of this):

Stereotype: Natural leader, ambitious, responsible.
Why it’s true: The eldest, for a while, has no competition for time (or books or baby banter) with Mom and Dad. “There’s a benefit to all of that undiluted attention. A 2007 study in Norway showed that firstborns had two to three more IQ points than the next child,” says Frank J. Sulloway, Ph.D., the author of Born to Rebel.Firstborns tend to be surrogate parents when other siblings arrive, hence their protective and responsible nature.
When it’s not: Parents can set high expectations for a first (or only) child. “When he feels like he has disappointed his parents or can’t measure up, he may veer off in another direction,” says Kevin Leman, Ph.D., a psychologist and the author of The Birth Order Book.

I don’t know who to tag but if you would like to do this go ahead!! Did you find any similarities with me? Let’s chat in the comments ❤

Beauty and The Beast Book Tag

Hello I was tagged by Lilly @ Lair of Books and Ash @ Once Upon A Bookshelf for the Beauty and the Beast Tag! CHECK OUT THEIR AWESOME BLOGS!!!!

Also check out the Creator of this Book tag Kirsty @ Kirsty and The Cat Read

1. “TALE AS OLD AS TIME” – A POPULAR THEME, TROPE OR SETTING YOU WILL NEVER GET BORED OF READING.

THE BAD BOY!!!!!!! Oh I will never get tired of the misunderstood bad boy who you hate in the first few chapters and then end up loving because he makes all the sense in the world. I always fall for that trap…I mean trope.

2. BELLE – A BOOK YOU BOUGHT FOR IT’S BEAUTIFUL COVER THAT’S JUST AS BEAUTIFUL INSIDE TOO

23395680-2I mean, I got it as a gift after I read the library edition..so it still counts right? Gosh this book is so beautiful without the jacket on and the inside IS SO AMAZING!!!! (read through documents, IMs, emails, not your regular book format) One of my favorite books. It’s a 5 star read for me.

3. BEAST – A BOOK YOU DIDN’T EXPECT MUCH FROM BUT PLEASANTLY SURPRISED YOU.

18344534This book is a New Adult and I wasn’t really expecting it to be amazing as it turned out to be. One of my favorite New Adult books that I love oh so much. It’s not just the romance but the past of these two characters that bind them together is beautiful. I plan on doing a Mini Review on it soon so watch out for that!

4. GASTON – A BOOK EVERYONE LOVES THAT YOU DON’T

17675462Gasp, kick, and cry all you want….I WILL NEVER GIVE THIS SERIES ANOTHER TRY. I just can’t do it. I have a more in depth reason as to why here.

5. LEFOU – A LOYAL SIDEKICK YOU CAN’T HELP BUT LOVE MORE THAN THEIR COUNTER PART.

11235712-2IKO!!!!! Please no spoilers!!! I haven’t read Cress and Winter yet, but I love me some Iko! Iko is an android, btw. Iko is so loyal and my heart panicked a few times when I thought bad things would happen.

6. MRS POTTS, CHIP, LUMIER & COGSWORTH – A BOOK THAT HELPED YOU THROUGH A DIFFICULT TIME OR THAT TAUGHT YOU SOMETHING VALUABLE

270730I read Crank when I was teenager. My teenage years were really hard but getting lost within Hopkins writing made me feel better about myself. I almost got into drugs and this book definitely helped me see the light on that world. Crank is based off Hopkins daughter who’s an addict.

7. “SOMETHING THERE” – A BOOK OR A SERIES THAT YOU WEREN’T INTO AT FIRST BUT PICKED UP TOWARDS THE END.

10929432The Archived by Victoria Schwab was really slow in the beginning and I almost DNFed it but then I reached past 100 pages and it got sooooooo good I couldn’t put it down.

8. “BE OUR GUEST” – A FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU’D LOVE TO HAVE OVER FOR DINNER

tumblr_o79odoTp5o1rzvcdpo1_540.pngTessa Gray from The Infernal Devices (photo credit here) because we can talk about boys and books. Plus she’s classy ass f***

Rapid Fire Book Tag

Thanks to Drew @ TheTattooedBookGeek for tagging me!!! Check out his blog, not only does he talk about books but he also has fantastic writing.

On to the questions!!!

  1. E-book or Physical book?
Can I say both? I like to read my new adults/contemporaries on my kindle and all my other books like Fantasy, Paranormal, and Versed/Poetry books etc. as Physical. I just love holding the book in my hand and feeling the pages. And New Adult physical books are expensive compared to how much I pay on the kindle plus I read those so quick AND THEY DON’T HAVE A MAP!
  2. Paperback or Hardback?
It all depends. I love me some paperback though because they aren’t heavy on the hands, although I do own TONS of hardbacks and if it’s a series, I try to make sure they all match.
  3. Online or In-Store Book Shopping?
Online because it’s cheaper and for some reason, the books always comes in perfect condition versus when I go to the store and they look beaten up. I also like to go in-store though, especially Strands because it’s cheap just for some book therapy. ONLINE for sure though plus coupons for days on top of that cheaper price.
    south park.gif
  4. Trilogies or Series?
Hmmmmm it really depends. I’ve read some amazing trilogies and series. As long as the in-between books don’t suffer from second/third book syndrome, then I don’t really care.
  5. Heroes or Villains?
Going with Drew’s answer and saying anti-hero. I love their brains and mentality and screwed up way of thinking. Then again, I just want to hug them half the time and be like “you’ll be okay, I understand why you’re that way”
  6. A Book You Want Everyone To Read?
    23437156.jpg
I know this a very hyped book in the book community, however I’m just never going to stop talking about it. It’s a fantasy with a group of 6 outcast set on a heist. I don’t have a review of it because I did read this book way before I ever thought of blogging. I love this book so much because of how dark it is and it has very well displayed diversity: Disability, PoC, LGTBQ+. However you can check it out on Goodreads, if you’re interested in checking out.
  7. Recommend an Underrated Author?
Here I am once again mentioning the awesome C.C. Hunter. I don’t ever see her anywhere and when I do, I am usually just as in shock as the person who knows I’m aware of this author. She has written the Shadow Falls series and the spin off, Shadow Falls: After Dark. It’s a YA Paranormal series set in a boarding school for the “troubled” paranormal.
  8. The Last Book You Finished?
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. It is the first book in The Nevernight Chronicles and you can find my book review here.
  9. Weirdest Thing You’ve Used as a Bookmark?
Gum wrapping paper. One day I had started this new book and forgot to take a bookmark with me to work, so I looked around my bag and used that.
  10. Used Books: Yes or No?
Yes. I don’t mind them, even though I don’t have tons of used books myself. But I have some that are almost brand spanking new and I got them for SUPER CHEAP!
  11. Top Three Favorite Genres?
    Fantasy, New Adult, and YA
  12. Borrow or Buy?
BUY. buy buy buy!! I hate borrowing things from people. Point, period, blank.
  13. Character or Plot?
Both. I feel like in order for a book to excel, you need both equally.
  14. Long or Short Books?
I  really think it all depends on the genre/plot of the book. Like what is the trying to accomplish? If it’s a contemporary/new adult, then I prefer those to be short and to the point. If it’s a fantasy, dystopian, or paranormal, then I prefer those to be long because of the world building and character development. I like when those kind of books take their time building a very well developed world/characters.
  15. Name The First Three Books You Think Of
-Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
-Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
    -Consequences by Aleatha Romig
  16. Books That Make You Laugh or Cry?
I feel like I’ve answered this before but I’m gonna go with cry. I always remember those more because I’m so freaking sensitive!!!
  17. Our World or Fictional Worlds?
    Fictional. I read to escape.
  18. Audiobooks: Yes or No?
    HELL. TO. THE. NO.
  19. Do You Ever Judge a Book by it’s Cover?
Guilty as charged, yes I do.
  20. Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?
I think it depends on the book. If it’s a long series, then I would say TV. If it’s a standalone or trilogy, then movie. I mean I actually prefer none but it is what it is.
  21. A Movie or TV-Show You Preferred to its Book?
I would have to go with The Maze Runner. That book was horrible in my opinion but the movies are pretty good, not going to lie.
  22. Series or Standalone’s?
    SERIES!!!!!!!!

Real Neat Blog Award 1, 2, and 3

  3. Frame seven questions for your nominees.
  4. Nominate seven deserving bloggers for the award.

Questions from The Jouska:

  1. What’s the story behind your blog name?
    Chic Nerd Reads
Chic because it means stylish and elegant, and I love dressing up and looking cute (even though I have my “I don’t care what I look like” days). Nerd because I feel like I identify with being a nerd/geek. So my blog name is basically saying “a stylish elegant nerd that reads”
  2. Do you plan your posts before writing them or are you more spontaneous?
Anything that is book related is definitely planned. All my personal writing tends to be spontaneous, unless I remember a certain poem from a few weeks back that I would like to post.
  3. Is there any book that you could read over and over again without getting bored?
Umm I’m not so sure because I don’t re-read books.
  4. Who’s your favorite Talk Show host?

All of Shadow Falls Academy because I think they would be super cool to hang with (written by C.C. Hunter)
  2. If you had a chance to meet your doppelganger which book would you tell them about?
Wow this is so hard to answer lol! Probably Shadow Falls by C.C. Hunter, Rooms by Lauren Oliver, and anything written by Ellen Hopkins.
  3. What book would you save if your house was set on fire?
I’d save my dog. I would cry for all my books but my dog would be my first thought. Sorry to my library.
  4. If you had a chance to re-write one book which would it be?
I am going to choose a recently finished book and that is How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather because of that ending!!!
  5. What is your favourite thing in a book that when you find it there it changes everything?
It depends on the book and character.

This is a very hard question that I never know how to answer.
  2. How and when do you usually post your book reviews?
I don’t really have a set day to schedule a book review. However, I do try to write a book review either immediately or most 2 days after finishing it because it’s still fresh on my mind.
  3. What is your favorite postion to read in (not trying to be creepy, I swear)

The Sunshine Blogger Award Part 2

Thanks to Maya The Book Explorer for tagging me!!! Sorry for not doing this sooner!!

The rules are as follows:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Answer 11 questions set by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 bloggers to receive the award and write them 11 new questions to answer.

Questions:

  1. When did you know you should start your own blog?
I realized this when I knew I wanted to post my own personal writing and when I didn’t want to do booktube anymore. One night I just sat in front of my computer and figured it out…two months later here I am and I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY WITH MY BLOG =)
  2. What do you look at first: the book cover or the blurb?
I look at the book cover if I’m at a bookstore but I usually go by reviews.
  3. Would you say you read a lot and can you stop reading in the middle of a chapter?
I can’t say I read a lot because I have a full time job in which I’m the manager so I come home tired and I dedicate time to my dog (who I tell everyone is my son). I can stop reading in the middle of a chapter if I have something else to do that requires immediate attention.
  4. Name your top 5 favourite books?
Top 5?!?!?! I actually can’t do that. So sorry lol.
  5. Do you read the book after the movie that’s based on that book is already out? And which is better, the movie or the book?
No I do not read the book after the movie is out because I get extremely bored. However, I do like to read the book before the movie and THE BOOK is definitely better than the movie. My only exception for this would be The Maze Runner, I actually liked the movie way more than the book.

No I have not and nor will I because I’m watching the show.
  7. Do you have book nights with your friends?

OOOOOOO this is so hard but I would have to say Feyre because Rhys *heart eyes*
  9. Do you think of yourself as a calm, quiet reader or as someone that expresses his feelings loudly when reading the book?
I am a calm and quiet reader till a plot twist or abrupt scene occurs…then I’m like *gasp* “OMG YOU ASSHOLE!!!” “WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!” etc
  10. How old were you when you bought your first book and what was the name of it?

This or That Book Tag

Thanks so much to megxnmarie for tagging me!! Check out her blog!

The Rules:

  • Mention the creator of the tag
  • Thank the blogger who tagged you!
  • Tag 10 other people to do the tag and spread the love!

1. Reading on the couch or on the bed?
Can I go with reading on the floor? Lol! I’ll go with reading on the bed, I actually have a very hard time reading on the couch because I get super distracted!

2. Male main character or female main character?
Female main character because it’s what I read more of and I love a good rebellious kick ass strong female.

3. Sweet snacks or salty snacks when reading?
I don’t snack when I read but I think I would lean more into sweet.

4. Trilogies or Quartets?
Trilogies!!

5. First person point of view or third person point of view?
Hmm this is hard because it really depends on the book but I would have to say first person if there are multiple point of views in a book. I just love being in everyone’s head.

6. Reading at night or reading in the morning?
AT NIGHT!!! I am not a morning person at all! Definitely night. I concentrate way better.

7. Libraries or book stores?
Oh this is so hard!! I’m going with bookstores though only because they have a wide variety of book in which my library doesn’t.

8. Books that make you laugh or books that make you cry?
Another hard question! I would have to say books that make me cry because I remember them more since they impacted me in someway.

9. Black book covers or white book covers?
Black because that’s my favorite color and I don’t have to worry about dirtying it.

10. Character-driven or plot-driven stories?
I think it depends on the genre and the book I’m reading. However, I love both equally. I really can’t choose for this one. Ahh!!

Now as for tagging!

The Birthstone Tag

Thank you Sean over at KingdomBookBlog for tagging me!!!

I TAG EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

The Reading Habits Tag

I was tagged by Samantha over at My Book Sense to do this! Thanks so much!

  1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Yes my room!!! I’ve tried many times to read in the living room but that never works out, I always end up distracted for some odd reason.
  2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Bookmarks for sure. I have different bookmarks and I always look for one that feels fitting for the book I’m currently reading.
  3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?
I have to stop at a chapter, however that doesn’t happen most of the time. I have a really good memory so even if I have to stop at a random spot, I can go back to it easily.
  4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
I can drink while reading but I only eat while reading if I have my Kindle or I’m reading on my phone.
  5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
NO MUSIC WHATSOEVER!!!!! I know how to sing so music is another passion of mine. It’s hard to juggle with two passions at the exact same time because when I’m listening to music, I also enter to another world. I can handle TV but only if I’m not interested in what’s on.
  6. One book at a time or several at once?
One book at a time please!! I’ve tried reading two books at once and that never worked out well for me.
  7. Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere! I live in New York City so I have learned to read on the bus, train, crowded places, even in a car. I have no problem reading anywhere.
  8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
    Silently in my head
  9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
I sometimes read ahead, like if I’m reading a physical copy of a book then I’ll skim the page next to it lol
  10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
    KEEPING IT NEWWWWWWW!!!!!!
  11. Do you write in your books?
    Hell to the no
  12. Who do you tag?
