Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine. On every Wednesday you discuss a book that you are highly anticipating.
The Language of Thorns:
Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic
by Leigh Bardugo
Illustrator: Sara Kipin
Release Date: September 26, 2017
Publisher: Macmillan
Genre: YA Fantasy, Short Stories
Love speaks in flowers. Truth requires thorns.
Travel to a world of dark bargains struck by moonlight, of haunted towns and hungry woods, of talking beasts and gingerbread golems, where a young mermaid’s voice can summon deadly storms and where a river might do a lovestruck boy’s bidding but only for a terrible price.
Inspired by myth, fairy tale, and folklore, #1 New York Times–bestselling author Leigh Bardugo has crafted a deliciously atmospheric collection of short stories filled with betrayals, revenge, sacrifice, and love.
Perfect for new readers and dedicated fans, these tales will transport you to lands both familiar and strange—to a fully realized world of dangerous magic that millions have visited through the novels of the Grishaverse.
This collection of six stories includes three brand-new tales, all of them lavishly illustrated with art that changes with each turn of the page, culminating in six stunning full-spread illustrations as rich in detail as the stories themselves.
This might be on a lot of people’s TBR list but I seriously cannot wait for this book. I am such a Grishaverse fan that I almost screamed when I found out about this one a few months ago. Plus there are illustrations included in Language of Thorns and I NEED TO SEE IT!!
I’m really excited each short story. However, I look forward to reading is the young mermaid story because I love mermaids and anything dark. Language of Thorns definitely sounds like a magical haunting read. And I am sure that Bardugo is going to captivate us with her writing skills and rich world.
September is right around the corner, along with Autumn (favorite season) and my birthday. This book releases 6 days after my birthday and I sure am going to gift this one to myself.
are you anxiously waiting for this book as much as i am?? let’s chat in the comments!!

YES TWIN!!!! so ready for this collection and all of the beautiful illustrations *heart eyes* I heard somewhere on Booktube that they’ve decided to change the name from Grishaverse to possibly Shadow and Bone? I’ll have to look it up but I’m not feelin’ the name change lol. So excited to get this one *busts a move* 🙂

Just the original Grisha Trilogy is now named Shadow and Bone Trilogy. Leigh Bardugo had tweeted a few weeks ago that she changed the name since she keeps coming out with books in the Grishaverse =)
But I am super excited for this book, I cannot wait to devour it!

Great pick for this week Gretchen. The Language of Thorns is on my list as well, I’ve had it pre-ordered ever since I first heard it was being released and I can’t wait for it to actually be released. It sounds really good and given it’s by Leigh Bardugo chances are it’s actually going to be amazing as well, I don’t think I can choose just one story I’m excited for! 😀

I had it pre-ordered but then cancelled it because I want to go in store to pick one up instead. I will read anything Leigh Bardugo comes out with. ANYTHING!!

I have it pre-ordered, and because I have Amazon Prime I’ll have it in my hands the very same day. That’s good enough for me! 🙂

Oh that sucks, I’ve had a few issues with Amazon. For books like this that I’m really really really anticipating I’d return it for a better copy.

Oh I want to read this ❤ I have some of her books here, but I haven't picked them up yet. You know how it is, I collect more books than I will ever be able to read.. sigh. I was thinking this might be a nice intro to her writing before deciding to tackle another series. You think?

Yes I definitely think so! Especially since you don’t have to read the series in order to read this one. I hope you like her writing and her stories ❤

I’m beyond exited for this book to come out!! I just NEED more stories from the Grisha universe in my life. When I heard that it’s illustrated as well, I got even more exited – which I didn’t think was possible. Great pick, Gretchen! 🙂

I adore short stories, so this makes me happy. That said, I haven’t read the Grisha trilogy, only the Six of Crows duology. I feel like I might need to read the Grisha trilogy first perhaps? So many books, so little time.

The author said you do not need to read any of the books in the Grishaverse to read Language of Thorns so that’s a plus for you!!!
