Hi everyone! I thought I would participate in WWW Wednesday today. This meme is hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words. You can link your blog post to Sam’s website that way we can interact and find other bloggers =)
The questions are:
1. What are you currently reading?
2. What did you recently finish reading?
3. What do you think you’ll read next?
what are you currently reading?
Been on a reading slump for some of February and so far all of March. I tried reading like 4 different books but none of them caught my attention. I swam and drowned in the reading slump till my friend/blogger buddy Debby @ alwaysbooking surprised me with 2 books!! I still can’t believe this and thank you again Debby!!! One of the books are We Are Okay by Nina LaCour. After reading the synopsis again and seeing how small and short the book is in person, I decided to give it a chance. AND MY SLUMP IS OUT THE WINDOW!!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!! I am so enjoying this book!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Marin hasn’t spoken to anyone from her old life since the day she left everything behind. No one knows the truth about those final weeks. Not even her best friend, Mabel. But even thousands of miles away from the California coast, at college in New York, Marin still feels the pull of the life and tragedy she’s tried to outrun. Now, months later, alone in an emptied dorm for winter break, Marin waits. Mabel is coming to visit, and Marin will be forced to face everything that’s been left unsaid and finally confront the loneliness that has made a home in her heart.
what did you recently finish reading?
I “recently” finished…more like my last book I read many weeks ago was It Starts Like This by Shelby Leigh and I have a full review here. This is a debut poetry collection and I thought it was great! 5 out of 5 stars ❤
what do you think you’ll read next?
I’ll be reading another poetry book! I’ve been really in the mood to read this one next. And that is Stuff I’ve Been Feeling Lately by Alicia Cook. Another poetry collection! I got the self-published version but now that she is signed to Andrews McMeel Publishing, her book will be re-released with brand new poems and a brand new take on April 11th!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
In Alicia Cook’s second poetic effort, designed in the style of an old mixtape, she sets her thoughts to a nostalgic tune. There is no Table of Contents. Instead, there is a “Track List,” making it easy to refer to them to your friends with a, “Hey did you read track seven?!” There are no chapters. Instead, the book is divided into two parts, or as one would say in the 90’s, two “sides.” Side A holds poetry that touches on all aspects of the human condition like life, death, love, moving on, evolving, growing up, hometowns, family dynamic, life after trauma, and make-ups and breakups. Side B holds the “remixes” of these poems, in the form of blackout poetry, also known as “found poetry.” Side B gives the material a fresh twist by creating new poetry out of Side A. There is also a very special surprise at the end of each track.
thoughts on these titles??? have you read any of these books? let’s chat in the comments!

I’ve been wanting to read “We are okay” for a while. Seriously gorgeous cover and I get a very melancholic feel from the GoodReads synopsis. Let me know how you like it!

Yes!!! It was a melancholic vibe! Like a sad undertone to it where it makes you ask yourself “what is going on?”

I’m so glad it’s not too long, because I went a bit overly-enthusiastic on NetGalley a couple of weeks ago and now I have a lot of reading to do

Now you know where I stand with We Are Okay twin, 5 chapters in & I need to get back. Those pesky Netgalley Samplers sure did trap me LMAO! I’m so glad you are out of your slump cuz I was missing my bestie reading & telling me all about her newest obsession lol. Stuff I’ve Been Feeling Lately sounds SOOOO good! I luv the way she formatted it like a mixtape, gives me that old school feel, added to TBR 😉

Yay!!!!!! I’m glad I’m back to my groove of things. All I have heard are amazing things of Stuff I’ve Been Feeling Lately. She has song titles at the end of each track. This should be really good ❤

We Are Okay has been on my radar for I while, but I simply cannot decide if it is a good fit for me. Part of me thinks I am guilty of cover love haha. I broke down and started Let the Right One In after my Goodreads Monday. Go figure huh lol.. I am so predictable ❤

have you read reviews for “we are okay”? i think that would be the best route. i mean if you want to try something different, then i would say go for it because it has that mysterious element to it. i have found myself asking “what is going on?” “who is she really?”
what do you think of Let the Right One In? lol i don’t think you’re predictable at all!

These all seem like great books Gretchen, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been in a reading slump for a while now but so glad to hear that We Are Okay manage to get you out of it. I have a fair few of Nina LaCour’s books on my to-read list so I really need to get around to them soon.
Also I love the cover for Stuff I’ve Been Feeling Lately. It’s simple but it always catches my eye whenever I see it. It’s definitely enough to make me want to pick this book when I next see it in a bookstore! 😀
Happy reading, I hope your slump stays gone as well. 🙂

I think we are experiencing an artistic, technological, and political Deja vu. Space organizations are much more collaborative in modern times, but majority control of the American adjenda is absolutely not accountable to the Constitution. It’s eugenics, it’s economy over passionate value. Passionate value being: respect for the individual right to pursuit of happiness.
“Millenials” or whatever I would be generalized as came to a mature age in the midst of 9-11, 2008 housing crisis, and the first two-term Black President, Obama. That’s a chaotic mix of events to interpret but if you try to compare human history and what President Obama did as far as legislation- it tells you so much about how modern people think. How people who voted for him*2008- blue coastal states and rare liberals who feel like aliens now*2017 in their Trump states-demanded change in a state of chaos.
I don’t mean that modern means Democrat- I mean modern more in the sense of 18-35 year olds.
