Mini Review Monday – Legend (Spoiler Free)

Because either you read the book before you started blogging or you never got around to it. If you decide to participate in this new meme, please feel free to leave a link to your post in the comments below. Also! Let the people know if it’s a non-spoiler/spoiler review.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Firstly I want to apologize for missing the last two Monday’s! But I am back on track, things have calmed down in my personal life lol.

I know Legend is a semi popular series but I loved all of it. We meet the two main characters, Day and June. Marie Lu writes the book from both POVs which I thought made the book even better because you get Day who’s pretty much an outlaw and June who’s the sister of someone high-up within the government. In other words, you’re getting the perspective of an insider and an outsider. And!!! If you read the psychical copy, the POVs are in two different font colors too.

The United States is divided into the Republic and Colonies and it is at war. June’s brother Metias is dead and Day is now the prime suspect, all clues lead to him but something else is brewing. And June is determined to find Day and make him pay for the murder of her brother, till a truth is out. The country is hiding all these secrets and now they made need one another more than ever.

The character and world building is phenomenal. I also love how easy Marie Lu made us understand/imagine the world too. If you’re looking for a Dystopian with a kick ass plot, then try this series out =)

“Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.”

“If you want to rebel, rebel from inside the system. That’s much more powerful than rebelling outside the system.”

  2. I read this one a long time ago and I really liked it! But unfortunately I haven’t picked up the sequel because it was spoiler for me but I will someday. Glad you loved it. Great review!

  3. I started this series, read Legend and half of the second book but fell into a massive slump and never got past the first half of Prodigy which is a massive shame because I loved the first book and also I loved what I read of the second as well. This is definitely a series I need to go back to ASAP, hopefully I’ll enjoy it just as much the second time as I did the first, and hopefully I’ll be able to finish it this time as well! 😀
I’m glad to see you enjoyed this book Gretchen. Do you plan to start the second book soon or have you already finished it? 🙂

  4. This series is probably one of my favorites in the dystopia genre. It was one of the ones that made me fall in love with the genre and though I’ve since been burned out on it I still love this series so much. That’s interesting about the physical copies since I read them as ebooks. I’ll definitely have to pick up actual copies of them at some point. And the first quote you included is my favorite! 😍
Great review as always, Gretchen! 😊

  5. I LOVED this series so much. I felt a little late reading it (read it just last year) but I devoured the last two books within a week. Such a good series. Made me fall in love with Marie Lu! I’m so happy you enjoyed it so much, too! ❤
